Rachel I am not doubting you, but where does the information of your ancestor being a Lawyer come from. On many of the census people have the occupation of Sawyer and when written it look very much like Lawyer. A Sawyer cuts wood. Victor

Hi An ancestor of mine was a lawyer based in Essex in the mid-late 1800s. Are there any sets of legal records which might tell me something about his business, court cases etc? I know there are legal records for the London area with details of trials etc - but what about other places? To make it more obscure his surname is BROWN! Any tips appreciated Thanks Rachel
