Hi I have found my grandparents marriage info, is there any way of seeing their information without obtaining a certificate? Thanks |

You could view the parish records on film at your local LDS, but it depends how long ago they got married. You would still have to pay to order the film, it's about £2.70. I was quite lucky, I have viewed the parish records of the church where most of mine were baptised/married, and the records were from 1860 to 1948. Most films finish a lot earlier, mainly about 1900. They were married in Lewisham and i have the reference number that you get off 1837. I have paid for their birth certs but i dont really need the marriage cert im just interested really to see where they lived and things. I know they were married (or it was registered) in Q3 of 1957, but other than that i dont know which church or reg office it was. I dont live near london so it would be quite difficult to just go and look at their parish records as it would end up costing me more than just ordering it. |

Hi Robyne, if you got marriage certificates it would show you who's parents are shown and place of residence at time of marriage for both groom and wife, |

That's right, also it shows who the witness's were, which is usually very interesting. Although the films are actual 'photos' of the certs, it's always best to have the certs. That way you have them to hand all the time. It has taken me 2 months to trawl through the parish records, what with writing being so bad & writing in the margin, on the side of the pages, amendments etc. As well as having to copy all the info by hand into a notebook! I would recommend ordering the cert. Sandra |
