I was looking up the GRO ref for a birth in 1926, I initially thought it was missing but I found it hand-written at the bottom of the page, it says ''11a See D34'' does this signify an adoption? If so can I ''see'' anything in 1934? Thanks, Sam |

Hi Sam Do you mean on the indexes djvue image? There is nothing against my name to signify adoption. Ann |

Hi Sammy I'm not aware that references are made to the adoption in the GRO indexes. I've just viewed 'me' under my original birth name and there's nothing against the entry to indicate an adoption. Notes like that usually mean there was an amendment to the original entry but I don't know enough about it to advise you properly! Lou |

Have just got in from a hot sticky day at work and couldn't resist a little look at the boards before I go and cool off - addicted or what? I think the reference you found is directing you to an entry in the December quarter of 1934, ie the birth took place in 1926 but wasn't registered until 1934, or perhaps was reregistered after parents married and the child was legitimised? |
