I have found my Great Grandfather William Carter on 1901 and it shows his wife as Martha A Carter age 43 born Suffolk Lavenham. It then shows his mother in law (who i took as being Marthas mother) Susanna Hamman age 63 born Suffolk Lavenham. I cannot find Susanna or any of them on 1881. I am trying to work out Marthas maiden name, as well as get 1881 census return. Please can anyone help. I dont know what else to do!!! Thankyou Natalie

Thanks so much Sarah!!! I know this is really cheeky but how can i check for Martha maiden name without getting a birth or marriage cert? Ive found a couple of other relatives marroaes on 1881 census site and it shoes the maiden name but cannot find a marriage. I cannot even find a Martha Hammond who was born in Lavenham

Marriages Sep 1857 Hammond Simon Kemp Cosford 4a 641 Welton Susanna Cosford 4a 641 Welton Susannah Cosford 4a 641 You would need to check the GRO page (not letting me view it at present) to see which is the spelling used for Susanna(h).
