I keep receiving emails from the National Archivist telling me about new records that have added to their database. I just want to know how useful others have found this site? I don't have any army rellies before WW1 that I know of. The only thing that tempts me is the passport aplications, but I don't understand how the indexing works! Looks as if I would have to pay for records for every single year on the offchance of finding info on my rellies who have 'touring Europe' written alongside their house name on the 1881 census!! What info would be on a passport record? Sorry, I'm blurbing on again.......So how useful have you found the National Archivist?? Thanks for reading this....Happy Hunting - Sarah |

Not very, but then again I have no rellies who needed passports or who left Wills or who were in India. To be fair, it does have info unavailable elsewhere so could be a goldmine for some. |

As far as I can remember from looking at the passport applications, you don't get much information from them. I have found the Death Duties Index useful to check who the executor of a will was (and their address), as that can show whether the will 'belongs' to your family or not before you fork out for it. I don't know whether anybody has found the new 'Living Relatives' feature useful at all? Kate. |
