Can't find Birth for John Cattermole

Hi, I have John Cattermole married Louisa Tookey on 16 Feb 1875 all saints, Birmingham. which I know is correct. According to the 1881 & 1901Censuses he was born in Balsall Heath Worcester abt 1854. But living in Aston, then later in Coventry. On IGI I found what I'm sure is him, born 30 may 1854, christened 8 Jan Jan 1860. Name John Sayer Cattermole. The problem is I can't find it on 1837 online. I've tried all sorts of versions of the name but with no luck. Could it be possible that he wasn't registered? not really sure where to go from here. Any Ideas? Regards Jaki

Hi Jaki, It's quite possible that he wasn't registered (not compulsory until the 1870's) What was John's father's name and occupation on his marriage cert? I think this is the family in 1861 and dad, Charles is a coach body maker. Compulsary registration didn`t come in until later, around the 1870s I think. I have one of mine born 1848 and not on GRO registration. Have you tried the local register office, as it may have been left off when they sent their copies to the GRO.

This is prob the marriage for the parents: CHARLES CATTERMOLE Male Marriages: Spouse: ANN SAYER Family Marriage: 18 MAY 1837 Saint Marys, Handsworth, Stafford, England The date is a bit gutting, as it's just a few weeks before civil registration began and so you won't get their father's names included! These things are sent to try us lol Sarah

Handsworth, Balsall Heath and Kings Norton are all in Birmingham now. Are there dates available as to when the boundaries changed? It is possible you may have to approach Stafford, and Worcester for info.

Hi Jim, Yes they are from same family. There is 7 children, I have found all but John on the register, I've tried different spellings of his name but with no luck. Regards Jaki
