HI CAN ANYONE HELP ME FIND OUT WHAT REGIMENT WAS STATIONED AT FULWOOD BARRACKS IN PRESTON LANCASHIRE WHEN THE 1871 CENSUS WAS TAKEN. ONE OF THE SOLDIERS THERE COULD HAVE BEEN MY GREAT GRANDAD. HIS NAME WAS PATRICK ONEIL AND WE KNOW THAT IN 1881 HE WAS A RAG MERCHANT AND THROUGH FAMILY FOLKLORE WE BELIEVE HE ONLY HAD ONE LEG.PERHAPS HE LOST IT WHEN HE WAS A SOLDIER. I KNOW I MIGHT SEEM A BIT THICK BUT WHAT WARS WERE HAPPENING AROUND 1871 THAT HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN. SORRY FOR THIS LONG WINDED MESSAGE BUT I AM NEW TO ALL THIS AND WOULD BE GRATEFUL OF ANY HELP. MANY THANKS LINDA

Don't quote me on this but I am sure there were 2 Boar wars, not sure of the dates, mid 1800's to early 1900's and another conflict to do with the Balkans, Russia, as you can see the history lessons did not work, someone on here will know.If you google there is lots if info, does it not give any info on the 1871 census as to which regiment it might be.
