There's a local history centre in Richmond that might be able to help with that area. I found a lot of useful details about my family there, including a photo of one of the houses they lived in and a map showing another one which has been demolished. Local area libraries might also be able to assist you. nell |

Janet, Thank you very much indeed, In the 1970s a sign such as you describe was printed in the Readers Digest Book of the road, I tried then to find out where it came from and failed miserably as they had obtained the design from an an agency. Now, out of the blue you have found its home . Many thanks I will definately follow this up , and will let you know how I get on. I think you ought to post a request here -- you never know I may be able to help you. Kind regards Maurice |

This may or may not be relevent to your family but Hertford Museum (not a million miles from Essex) has a sign which I believe came from a local smith/chandler/locksmith's which is in the shape of a key with the name Nunn and the date 1798. I'm sure Hertford Museum could fill you in more on the details (they are closed on Mondays) They can be contacted on 01992 582686 I really hope this is one of yours because I know the Museum has all the details of the shop/owner and premises. Good luck Janet |

Does anyone have any 1800,s Postcards or photographs of Blacksmiths Workshops in Tillingham, Bradwell on Sea,Burnham, or Steeple (all in Essex) ? Or information on 'Nunn' Blacksmiths in those areas. also photographs or postcards of Coachmakers premises in Twickenham / Richmond in the 1800,s. or ANY information on 'Royal Oak Lane 'Twickenham between 1805 and 1860, (I think the 'Royal Oak Pub stood on the corner). I am told it is now the Twickenham Tup. I have three birth certificates showing Royal Oak Lane as the place of birth for my 'Hasteds' who were all coach makers, having now hit the brick wall I am trying to fill in the history to make the tree a read ,rather that just a list for my grandchildren.
