You're not doing anything wrong! The GRO indexes of Births Marriages and Deaths had been partly transcribed by volunteers and this is published on FreeBMD and reproduced by Ancestry. They have done many years between 1837 and abt 1910 but not much after that date. (for details of coverage see FreeBMD Information and Coverage Charts pages) If you need BMD registrations after the dates covered you will have to use either of the pay-as-you-go sites, 1837online or Family Relatives. Family Relatives is good up to 1920. Both sites have all the pages of BMD's online and you pay about 10p per page to view. From: Tree novice, I have just entered the scary world of building my family tree, my first attempt was to try Ancestry.co / England and Wales Civil reg: 1837=1983, thing is, nothing comes up later than about 1909, it may be obvious to you old hands what I'm doing wrong, so please tell me, thanks in advance.
