Forgive me if I'm being thick here but how can 2 deaths have the same volume and page number 5 years apart? Lou

Hi Cat I'm watching this thread with interest because I have the same with my g-grandma's death on freebmd. I suspect that one of them is a mistranscription. Heather

Definitely, I've got it open in another window now I've checked both entries and there's different people with her on each page The 1844 one appears on ancestry BMD, the 1849 doesn't at the moment I thought initially it had been duplicated in error but surely exactly the same people would be on both pages if that were the case?

The volume is an area - 6a is Glos and bits of Warks, 1a, 1b and 1c are London, etc. I think its just coincidence that its the same page number - they are different years so different pages. nell

Each quarter each reg district would compile all it's records and submit them to the GRO in the same order, so lets say a reg district had five sub districts, those five districts would be submitted in the same order. Then when the GRO received the records, each complete Reg District would be written down in the same order to create a Volume, so if these two ladies died in the same district they would obviously both be Volume 12 for Rochford, and probably if you checked Rochfords entries for each quarter you would find that their death entries always fell in the pages numbered one hundred and something, because Rochford was always, for instance, the second reg district under volume 12 to be written up. Hence the chances of hitting the same page number for someone dying in the same village is not that great. Are you still awake?? lol Sarah

They started off from page 1 in each volume in each Quarter. They entered the different Reg districts in the same order each quarter - eg in Lincs it was Stamford, Bourn, Spalding, Holbeach, Boston etc, so the same districts tended to have similar numbers from quarter to quarter.

Thanks everyone and especially Alan for checking that for me Gives me an extra possible wrong cert then, I suppose! Lou
