This has already gone to Parliament and the answer was no. The decision to uphold 100-year closure wasn't made out of a desire to slight the genealogical community. The 1911 householders' schedule stated that the information would be only used for statistical purposes and would be kept confidential. There was no quantifying date. Parliament decided that householders would have interpreted it as meaning it would NOT be released, ever. Hence waiting until everyone has died before making the census public. You could start yet another thread about it, like Benjamin Caine's sweet but rather pointless petition on Record's Board. Or you could fight for something where you have half a chance. The Irish 1901 census isn't online or on CD, and there isn't a BMD index available either. Parish registers for all over the UK remain untranscribed. |

I really don't want to be a wet blanket, but I don't think this will work! If they start preparing now, I doubt the 1911 census will be ready much before the proposed 2012 release and it sounds as if it isn't going to be very user friendly. I accept the 1921 census could be brought forward. The 1931 no longer exists The 1941 was not taken Sarah |

> LETS START A CAMPAIGN TO REDUCE THE TIME FOR > CENSUS BEING RELEASED TO A MAXIMUM OF 50 YEARS. Let's not. Spend your energy on something uself rather than campaigning for something you will only be disappointed in. See other threads about the condition of the 1911 census... it's not going to be of much use. Bill |

CENSUS MATERIAL ITS TIME TO GET THEM RELEASED! Hi to all! I am going to start a campaign to get census details released earlier. As someone trying to find distant relatives I find it ridiculous that if I do a search for myself (age 36) on the internet I can find me, my children, address and phone number, yet I will have to wait until 2011 or later (once they've been transcribed) until I can research who my family were in 1911 = who probably died before I was Born.! If any of you out there feel the same please send a personal e-mail to jativeyATblueyonderDOTcoDOTuk, stating your name and postcode and a will try and get a petition started and lobby my MP in the UK. If you are not in the UK please say so in your e-mail - LETS START A CAMPAIGN TO REDUCE THE TIME FOR CENSUS BEING RELEASED TO A MAXIMUM OF 50 YEARS. PLEASE INFORM ANY OTHER MEMBERS YOU MAY HAVE CONTACTED AND GET THEM TO E-MAIL ME TOO! Regards Jan Tivey |
