If you collect certificates as a proof of all that is on your tree then you will not lose anything by going to see the original records. The LDS is far from infallible and you will be able to take photocopy of all that you see regarding the marriage and Banns, and while you are there can check on the children of that marriage and go back to the births of the couple and trace their ancestors. Photocopies will cost you up to 50p per copy - I have found archives all charge varying amounts from 30p per page upwards, and you may be surprised at what you can find in 2 hours which is generally the prescribed tome given to researchers (by my rxperience ranging from Oxford to Canterbury to Huntingdon and more). Good hunting and have a nice day out. |

The odds are that the marriages of the children of this couple, and indeed of several of their grandchildren will occur before the start of civil registration, and although the format may change very slightly, the information on all of their marriages will be broadly the same. It is sensible to look at the parish registers for all these later marriages (and the banns, and the baptisms, and the burials) in order to build up as broad a picture as you can of this family, to ensure that the marriage you have found is the right one and not, coincidentally, a marriage between two people who happen to have the same names as those you are researching. |

If its from the IGI parish records there probably isnt any more to see. Do remember that members submission arent always accurate though. I have been fortunate in some of mine when I have had both fathers and their occupations and in one case, the actual address of the groom. Dont forget that if you have the exact correct details you can probably email the records office for a photocopy for about £2. |

Sue, I'll agree with the two posts above. i have looked up quite a few marriages for around that time in the parish records. All the ones I have seen have the name of the bride and groom, whether they are of the parish or not and the witnesses. Sam x |

Hi Sue The marriages I've seen for that time have the names of two witnesses who could be relatives and I have one from 1775 giving the bridegroom's occupation but that is unusual. Heather |

Sue - you may very well find that there is nothing more than what you already have, but it could possibly give the home parish of one or other of the parties if they lived somewhere other than the parish where they got married. Of course, if you do go and look through the parish records, you might be able to go backwards from the wedding and find their births, brothers and sisters, parents' weddings etc. if their families had lived in that parish for a long time. On the other hand, you might find nothing! Kate. |

I have the names, parrish and date of a marriage in Coventry in 1778. The original records are in Warwick. Does anyone know what exactly would be on these records. Would there be anymore information than I have already( it's a bit of a trek and I don't want to go if Iwon't learn anything new). Sue |
