My Gt Grandmother Annie Gardiner, was born 19th April 1880 in Limerick Ireland. She married my Gt Grandfather William Price (b.1881) whilst he was serving with the Royal Artillery on tour of duty in Limerick. So my questions are ; 1. I need to confirm the spelling of my Gt Grandmothers names (ann, Annie, Anne, Gardner, Gardiner, Gardener) - where do I start ?? 2. Where can I get Irish Birth and Marriage Certs, and is the process similiar to the UK GRO process ? 3. Are there any sites like Ancestry or 1837 that I can view index information for Ireland. I have looked in Ancestry and cant find anything of relevance. As always - all help gratefully received....P |

Paula There are no online resources for Irish BMD, you have to contact (or visit) Dublin or Belfast and you also need to know the county. Ancestry covers England and Wales but not Ireland. Not very helpful I know but that's the case. I have lots of ancestors from Ireland and cannot go any further back with them until I can visit. Lyn |

Hi Paula, I have the same problem. My grandmother & g.grandmother was born in Ireland and my grandparents were married in Ireland. Because there is really nothing online I am writing to the GRO in Ireland with as much info as I have in the hope that I may get lucky. Have a look at this website... http://www(.)groireland.ie/about_us(.)htm (remove the brackets) You may find it helpful. all the best Margaret |

LDS (Mormon Church) Family History Centres have Irish BMD indexes on microfilm, or at least my nearest one does, but when I went to look at it I found the bits I particularly wanted to look at were missing from the microfilm. Anyway, you may get lucky and find them that way. Kate. |
