Natalie, thanks for your message. Im sure they are busy, but its been 6 months since the first letter, 4 months since the second 3 months since the 3rd and finally 3 weeks since the last one. They are exactly doing it for nothing are they, £20.00 quid is a lot of money especially when on a pension, and of course there is the FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT to consider. But thats another thing. He had 3 brothers now all dead and when I was younger none of could tell me anything, rumours going found that he married into a wealthy family in london . It was only by chance that I found out he had married a wealthy woman in LIVERPOOL, so out went the first theory. TED.

CB, Hi. Ive been waiting months for a reply, first letter 6 months ago, still nothing. The man im looking for was my moms eldest brother born 1901, ERNEST BLUNDELL. he married in 1937 in LIVERPOOOL and his occupation was given as sgt 2nd bn Scots Guards. He never came to his mums or his dads funerals in 1939 and 1948 and the family didnt know anything about where he was or how he was doing? Ive seen a group photo of his unit based in London when I was maybe 10years old, and remember seeing a picture of him wearing one of those peak caps with the peak right down the front of his face, and from what I can remember he was a big bugger, a real tough nut and he supposedly wrote a training manual on an arms weapon which the Army used as a reference, but dont know whether or not that was true. So he was 37 when he married and was a sgt then, so I would have thought by 1955 he would have been ready to leave the Army as he would be 54 which would be old for a soldier unless he made the rank of officer, but in those days I dont think coming through the ranks was the dont thing. But if you do get a chance and go to the Museum and have a look around, the name is ERNEST BLUNDELL former sgt in 2nd SCOTS GUARDS. tHANKS VERY MUCH FOR REPLYING TO MY MESSAGE. TED.

Hi Ted When I wrote to them about an ancestor in Coldstream Guards it took a while for the reply to come. The reply included a form for them to do a search for £20. I sent off the form, and got a very nice phone call a week or so later from them to apologise that they couldn't find any records for him. So, don't give up, as I think they are probably just very busy right now with the sudden interest in family history! Best wishes Natalie

Hi Ted, I can confirm that Wellington Barracks is indeed still in Birdcage Walk - I walked past it a few weeks ago. My father was in the Coldstream Guards and based there in the 1920s, and I've also been in touch with the Regiment, by email. The response I got was that they receive so many requests for information about military personnel, that they cannot always reply promptly, so I have decided to visit the Guards' Museum on the premises and try to find out what I want to know from there. I'm not sure when I shall be going there(I have a knee injury at present), but if you don't get any luck by post, send me details of what you want to know, and I'll try and find out something for you. Are you sure you're writing to the correct Regiment for your relative? That could make a big difference to how quickly they can handle your request. Have you looked at the Regiment's website? There may be some info on there. CB >|<

Hi Ted I just googled it + got this address: Contact: RHQ Scots Guards, Wellington Barracks, Birdcage Walk, London, SW1E 6HQ, Tel: 0171 930 4466 ext 3321 So it looks a bit like they just aren't replying! If you google it there are quite a few links for RHQ Scots Guards so you may find a contact e-mail address. Regards Ann

hi all, another horrible day, nothing like a warm summers day, whats this about global warming? Ive written to The Regt Army HQ, SCOTS GUARDS, BIRDCAGE WALK, LONDON now for the past couple of months, seeking info about an uncle of mine, and ive not had a reply to the 3 letters ive sent, which included a sae for their reply. Does anybody know if this is the place to write to or whether they have moved? Or is it just another case of bad manners? I hope its not the second case. TED.
