Hi Helen, No I have no idea when his wife died, I will have to go onto Ancestry again, and look through there. It would be a lot easier if we could see the next census after 1901. I will have given up by 2012. Ann |

Hi Jenny, No ones ever asked me that before!! I haven't looked yet as am going out this evening (second time in a week after about a year of evenings in lol) I would guess that in the Crimea period they were not so organised with publishing lists of people as they did in later wars. I have never come across lists for that time, but have never looked specifically! I expect they report officers but maybe not men?? If you would like to message me ( to save interupting this thread!) I'll take a look for anyone you are after tomorrow. (even if I have a hangover!!) Sarah |

Carol, I will be back at the Library next week to continue. Sarah has looked in the Times for me re Boer War and he isnt named there, so thats something. I know he died before I was born, 1937, so I only have 15 years to look through!!! You will hear the scream in Brighton. Ann |

Hi Ann, I have checked for surname Fitzsimon(s) in the Gazette in The Times for the Boer War period and there were none! Sarah |

Hi , I'd suggest, keep trying as he may well have lived into his eighties/nineties. He probably was alive in 1914 otherwise it would have said deceased. I apologise if I'm stating the obvious. best wishes, Carol |

Hi Helen little Nell, Dont like asking for anyone to look for me, as I have had to have help in the past with the same person. But these are the details:- ALEXANDER FRANCIS FITZSIMON/FITZSIMONS, D.O.B 1/4/1867, MANCHESTER. WAS IN THE ARMY TILL ABOUT 1894. MARRIED SECOND WIFE 4/4/1899. ON THE 1901 CENSUS SHE IS CLASSED AS WIFE AND MARRIED. THE NEXT TIME HIS NAME APPEARS, IS ON MY GRANDADS MARRIAGE CERT. 1914, (DECEASED NOT WRITTEN ON.) I know that doesn't mean an awful lot, and doesn't mean he was in the Army again, its only an assumption. Have now looked from 1900 to 1922. Any ideas would be welcome. Ann |

IF he was in the Boer war, and died during, he may be difficult to find. Rootsweb has some useful info, and an archived forum... here's the info: http://freespace.virgin(.)net/anglers(.)rest/BWInfo.htm remove () Rootsweb archive for Boer War: http://lists.rootsweb(.)com/index/other/Military/BOER-WAR.html remove () |

When do you last know that he was definitely alive? Have you any proof that he was in either Boer war? Or are you just assuming that he was dead because you can't find him on the 1901 census? Post his name and his place and date of birth and others can help to look for you. nell |

Hi all you helpful people. I have spent the day trying to find my GGrandads date of death. I have been to the Library, with a very nice person I met on here, trying to find my GGrandads year of death. We have looked through the records for 10 years with no luck. I have now looked on Ancestry for the 14yrs previous to that, not there either. Will go back next week, to continue. Can anybody tell me, that if he had enlisted in the Army for the Boer war, and was killed, would his death be registered here. The Library didn't know. Cha Cha Cha Have looked on Kevin Asplins Boer War site, which is very good but cant find him there. Will give these others a try. Thanks Ann |
