Checked on www streetmap uk co and Walditch is just outside Bridport. No Redding nearby, though there is a Long Bredy and a Little Bredy a few miles further east. Could Bredy become Redding? nell

I had a look in my husband's Ordnance Survey Gaetteer, and the best I could come up with is Riddings Farm which is just to the east of Headley - not particularly near Dorset. But county boundaries have moved in that area...unfortunately, nothing for Dorset, either. Could it really be 'Little' (no) or 'Great' (no) or 'Upper' (no) or 'Lower' (no) or 'Nether' (no) - it isn't 'North' either. I guess there are other possibilities like that, but I could spend all evening guessing! Perhaps you could try them in Multimap? It does seem to be sensitive to things like that. Christine

I don't think there is such a place.... might it had been 'Reading, Berkshire' the way you pronounce those two, they do sound very similar.

A Dorset 1851 Census says that Stephen Ackerman was born in Ridding Hampshire c. 1802. Possiby on the borders of Dorset but I can't find anything on Village sites or Google Help ,..Jane
