Thanks very much Anne - that's what I wanted to know:) I was hoping there would be christian names and dates because I can't get to Bedfordshire archives and it's a bit of a cheek to ask someone for help when it would only surname and not a positive find. Will read your answer again and have a think about it:)) Thanks for your help David

I think you are talking about the PRIME Parish Registers index? I have a copy and it is useful, with reservations. 1. It only goes up to 1812 2. It has just a list of all possible surnames but not dates or christian names. It is fully searchable and you use it to find out if there are any entries for your 'name' in any particular parish. The CD generates a list of all the pages of the parish record transcriptions. The idea is that when you visit Bedford Archives you have a list of page numbers to find rather than going through the whole lot. Alternatively the parish records are on sale on microfiche from the Bedfordshire FHS. The CD is of most use if your 'name is not very common. I guess putting in 'Smith' would generate a list of every parish! Feel free to ask me more if you need to. Anne

I might be being a bit thick Nell but I've waded through a load of hits and they haven't helped much so far - also it's quite nice to hear another person's thoughts on things sometimes:)

If you google 'Bedfordshire Parish Registers Master Index CD' there are lots of hits, hopefully they will answer some of your queries. nell

Am thinking of buying it and just wondered if anyone had seen or used it? Has it got christian & surnames, dates & whether bur, bapt or marriage? Finding it hard to find out:)
