Morning all, I have finally found out the maiden name of my gr gr gr grandmother after searching for a long time. So armed with the information i set about trying to find her marraige, should be easy i thought seeing as i have both partners names, WRONG!! I cant seem to locate it anywhere. If some kind person takes pity on me and would like to help the names are John Burke & Mary Marriott I'm assuming they would have married in the Bilston area of Wolverhampton about 1862 ish. Okay ive grovelled enough now LOL!! Many thanks , Deb X |

do you have them as sep individuals in 1861 - are you basing marraige year on oldest child dob ? So how old were they on marriage, pobs dobs etc ? |

Hiya Newcroamancer I'm basing the marraige on the date of birth of their eldest child, i cant locate either of them exactly on the 1861 census as yet. Their eldest child was born 17th March 1863. Thanks DebX |

I had a look on West Midlands BMD. I think this is yours? West Midlands Marriage indexes for the years: 1862 Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference BURKE John MARYATT Mary West Bromwich Register Office Sandwell WBRO/6/28 The local ref acts as a link to a part completed application form to get a copy cert from the local office. Thanks, Necromancer I suppose it could just be a coincidence of phonetically similar names, but I think we've got a hit there. I'm quite partial to the local sites where they exist - they often give more detail than GRO listings, and they can often deliver the certs faster than GRO. Downside is that you often get a modern transcription of the local contemporary transcript rather than a photocopy of the central contemporary transcription of the local contemporary transcript. If you can get a copy of the original register, it's much nicer because you get to see your ancestor's handwriting (signature, anyway) - and it's also often significantly cheaper if you don't need the info certified, because you just get a photocopy of the register page (20-40p each). I was despairing of the West Midlands site (http://www.bmsgh.org) because utnil a few weeks back they'd got stuck at 'latest update 9 Dec 2003' ! All the other sites were into 2005 before they suddenly caught up. Christine better get back to work after my late lunch-break! |

Deb, Hi I just wanted to say that I have used the service provided by Sandwell lots of times. They are really fast!! Whenever I have sent them an application, I have received the certificate within a week. Once I sent my letter to them on Monday and I had the cert on Wednesday!! Their fee is now £7.50. Pat |

Hope it really is the one. I admire your self-discipline, Debs. I don't resent you not answering sooner - I shouldn't have been on often enough (or long enough!) to notice! Christine |
