Sorry.have been off line for a while. Theres some good ideas here THANKS ALL . I might copy your letter Jess!! Poor Julie........that sort of thing happens to me! All I said in my original e-mail, sheila, was hello we have the same name...........not very brilliant/imaginative, I know but at the time wasnt sure we were related at all. Ann x |

I contacted a person with the same name and dob as my husband - and thought great I've found someone. Unfortunately it turned out to be husband - found out when my email came to his email address - he isn't registered now but must have put his details in at some stage. What a let down. |

what about... hi, I am researching the surname (whatever) We seem be both be hunting down the same names and seem to have some co-incedences, not least in OUR very names being identical!.... I would love to compare notes with you sometime and hope that we can find a mutual ancestor. Yours Blah blah (keep it light) |

That's a good idea Tabby ............its a bit more intriguing saying *info to offer* Do you think I should put her fathers name in the e-mail? or pick another relation?.....like you say, unveil info slowly! Regards Ann x |

How about the name of the mutual ancestor (check that they have a couple of other entries with the same surname) and then 'info to offer'. It doesn't have to be a lot of info - these days I tend to divulge a bit at a time: a sort of dance of the seven veils, and only minimal hints on that original contact. But that does seem to get more nibbles than just saying we are related. |

I am about to e-mail someone on GR who is related to me. I sent a hello e-mail a couple of weeks ago, as they have exactly the same name as me.(no reply) I know now they are definately related. I don't want to scare them off............what on earth can I put in the subject? Writing the e-mail's bad enough , but I am completely stuck with title. Thanks Ann x |
