Hello, I wonder if there is anyone out there who might be able to identify a badge for me? It appears in an old photo pinned onto a man's waistcoat below his fobwatch chain. It is shield shaped. I'm afraid I can't really give much more of a description but would be happy to email the picture to any kind soul who thinks they may be able to help. Thanks Cherie |

Pippa, It's certainly the same sort of size and shape as the Salvation Army Shield but the one's I've seen on the web have 'Salvation Army' written across them and the badge in question doesn't seem to have any writing across the front. I will keep looking, though, in case there are other styles of Salvation Army badge. Thanks very much for the suggestion. Ann, Unfortunately, I don't know where or when! Never a good start! It's an old sepia photo which I would guess was c1900. Tony, Thanks, I had already googled and got buried in military badges and football shield badges. I don't think it is a military badge judging from all the ones I've looked at so far. I'll keep ploughing on though. Regards and thanks to all, Cherie |

I just wondered if you had got any further yet. If you enalrge that part of the image do you get any other clues such as it being gold, silver or another colour? Do you know if your family had links with Salvation Army etc? Mine did which is why it came to mind they were all miners and had their children named by the Army when they fell out with the vicar. Not helpful for tracing the family tree. Pippa |

Cherie,, Is it not just a Fob as worn on a watch chain,,some are of shield shape made of silver and plain,,some engraved, some had heart shape for initals,,,for even gold on them,,, have you looked on ebay under ''fobs'' to see if you can find similar???I have come across loads of these in my auction buys>>very popular 1900 to 1930's.. |

Sorry for not answering sooner - computer troubles. Pippa - no I haven't got any further for the above reason! I don't know of any links to the Salvation Army but I will keep looking. Thanks. Kay - Now you say that, it does look like there is a heart shape in the middle! I had been looking at badges because it doesn't appear to be attached to the fobwatch chain, he has something else dangling from that. It looks like it is pinned to his waistcoat. I will look under 'fob' rather than 'badge'. Thanks for the suggestion. Will let you know if I find anything. Cherie |

Having looked at fobs on ebay as Kay suggested, I feel sure that's what it is! Can't think why I didn't put 'fob' in, in the first place instead of 'shield' and 'badge', doh! Thanks to all for your help. Cherie |
