I don't want to sound stupid or anything, but it's my first day here. My mum was researching the family tree and she became really ill and asked me to carry on for her. Im really sorry if this has been answered before but what do all the initials mean that you all write? like lds & gro?

LDS - (Church of the ) Latter Day Saints - the Mormons, who have produced the IGI - International Genealogical Index GRO - General Register Office - where birth, marriage & death certificates are held FRC - Family Records Centre - where GRO indexes and all the censuses for England and Wales are held. CRO - County Record Office - for parish registers etc TNA - The National Archives - for national, rather than local records

In their wisdom, Genes Reunited do not allow you to search on three letters, so you cannot look at anyone's thread about IGI, FRC etc by typing the initials into the search box. I have complained about this!

Thanks Kirsty. My mum is in hospital, and she told me to register here and just jump into the boards. I think she will be okay (i am visiting very soon) and i am sure she will be amazed when i tell her how much help i have been given with just one posting (hope thats right, post or posting?) I was really nervous about writing anything at first, but i have had a really nice welcome from everybody.
