At the risk of being a pain can anyone help with a marriage. I have asked this before but now have more information. I have my GG Grandfathers birth certificate stating mother as Mary Ann Angliss and father as George Glasspool. Mary born in Basingstoke, George born in Southampton. Found a marriage in 1841 (just before first child born) for Mary in Basingstoke, Hampshire and one for George in Southampton in same quarter and year but not to each other. Can't find anorther marriage for either anywhere on 1837,com. On 1881 census one of their sons is living with a Henry Angliss working as a tailor. Can you help with any ideas? Linda |

How weird. Did you find the marriage on Freebmd or on 1837online? You can get rare mistakes on freebmd until it has been transcribed twice (shows in dark print). |

Dear Linda, How can you be sure of when their first child was born? I have so many instances in my family tree where I assumed which was their first child because he/she was the oldest one on all the censuses and then found older ones who weren't at home for the censuses or had died before census date. What I am wondering is whether they could have married before the start of Civil Registration in 1837? Kate. |

Did the birth cert say Mary Anne Glasspool formerly Angliss? Or just gave her name as Mary Anne Angliss? If the latter, then it appears they didnt marry. |

Helen This is no help, I am sure, but this is the marriage you probably found on Freebmd: MARY ANGLIS Female Family Event(s): Death: Burial: Marriages: Spouse: RICHARD COOK Family Marriage: 05 SEP 1841 Basingstoke, Hampshire, England nell |

Just a thought. I found a George Glasspool getting married to an Ann in 1837 in Newington (Lambeth area). Is it possible that we are looking at wrong dates and that your Mary Ann could actually be his second wife? |

I think I will try another way and try to find any certs. on Henry Anglis who one of their sons is living with in 1881. It's got to be a relation of his mothers, hasn't it, too much of a coincidence? Perhaps that will show some clues. Linda |
