I'm trying to find a relation in Oz - Nell Newton née Williams, but don't know what first name she had other than the 'Nell' she used to sign to my Grandmother. Can anyone help with some suggestions? And, while I'm at it, are there any Census records in Australia and are they on line? Thanks in advance! Hazel |

Or her name might have been Nellie. My nana's half-sister (died aged 3) was born Nellie, and died Nellie. |

My Aunt was registered as Annie Elizabeth, but as nan was called Annie by her husband . my aunt was always called Nell as a short name for Elizabeth. On my Mums side her eldest Half sister was Ellen Elizabeth & was also known as Nell. Shirley |

LOL. Perhaps Nell is one of those names that confuse everyone, like Cissie!! I think my grandma's great aunt Cissie was born Emily Jane, no idea if I'm right though! |

Nell is short for Helen (as I should know!) and has been short for Eleanor/Elinor too. BUT my great-uncle Sam was married to a woman whose name was Nellie in its own right. Nell |
