If i send for a death certificate from 1900, is it likely to show who registered the death? I cannot find my Wiliam George Bentley on the 1901 census but have found a death in March 1900. Need to prove this is him by hopefully having his wife as the person who registered it.

Yes, it should show who registered the death. Quite often you get a bit saying 'present at death' after their name.

The death cert will give the informant of the death. This is usually, but not always, the nearest relative, often a spouse or parent. But the death cert will also give occupation and age, which may help to prove it is your chap. nell

Another thought, if he isn't on the 1901 census, have you found his wife, and is she listed as married or widowed? If you can't find her either, I would say, forget the death cert, they are probably both mistranscribed! nell

Hopefully his address or that of the informant will be the same as one of your family in 1901.
