Just checked and the Raasay mines used German PoWs in WWI The only PoW camps in the Scottish islands that I can see listed are the Italian PoWs who worked on the Churchill Barriers. It is possible though that some old military camps were reused after the end of the war. The list on the Bridgend site does not seem complete. There are more listed here http://www.english-heritage.*org.uk/filestore/conserving/characterisation/military_history/prisoner_of_war_camps.pdf REMOVE STAR Hope this escapes being corrupted by Genes Reunited. I thought the PoW camp on Raasay was WWII? I think they worked in the mine there. There is a list of all(?) PoW camps in the UK on the English Heritage website. They have some free downloadable publications and it is one of those. MB |

can't help with regiments but I know a few of the camps were on the Islands - Raasay for certain. Just trying to see if our archive at work holds more details of other sites - then you could approach local history societies. A long winded route but it may help. Zoe |
