Lunch hour is officially over, so this has to be brief: 1. Go to the National Archives website and search for your names. It's unlikely, but you might find that this discharge papers have been catalogued. 2. Download the leaflets that they have on soldiers, to see what help they are. 3. Military bmd are at the FRC, in a separate series of volumes. They can also be searched online at 1837Online, but this is a subscription service. 4. If you have to search the records at Kew, you will almost certainly need to know the regiment. Hopefully, you already know. If you've found them in 1. or 3. above, they will tell you, otherwise, look at any ephemera the family has (photos, medals, cap badges etc) for clues. Now I'm back to pretending to work!

What sort of records do you actually want, Beth Anne? Soldiers' service records, or their births marriages and deaths?

Family Records Centre - see their website for where they are and what else they hold but basically it is the main repository of Births, Marriages and Deaths indexes, and censuses for England and Wales. http://www.familyrecords.gov.uk
