Can anyone please clarify, i am looking for a name which i think i may have found on Police Orders and it shows the following information: 13/06/1902 Warrent: 915 Name: ALEXANDER GOODRIDGE Rank: A/PS Station: R Reason: 28 Day Rejoin. Does anyone know what it means by '28day rejoin' bearing in mind his rank was a acting police sergeant!! Any suggestions please Thanks Tracey

Tracy, Could it be that he left the police and had the option to rejoin (or be recalled) in 28 days? Something similar tho' longer term, operated when a regular soldier left the army. Or maybe he just wanted 28 days off for compassionate leave or something? Just thoughts! Jane

Thanks Jane, i was hoping that it was because he retired and this was possibly a standard thing incase they changed their mind. Its just nice to get others opinions when your not certain. So thanks for your thoughts. Tracey

13/06/1902 915 ALEXANDER GOODRIDGE A/PS R 28 Day Rejoin 16/12/1891 57064 GOODRIDGE PC 299W To A/PS 14/12/1891 17/07/1899 57064 GOODRIDGE A/PS 135 1st PENSIONED 16/07/1899 It looks as if Alexander with 'proper' Warrant No. 57064 retired 16JUN1899. He was then recalled for 28 days on 13JUN1902 given temporary Warrant No 915. The only thing that springs to mind is that the Boer War ended 31MAY1902. It is probable that the resources of the Met were overstretched and they recalled some retired officers to deal with the various public celebrations that would be taking place. I would think the exodus of fit young men to be 'gentlemen in Khaki heading south' had greatly diminished the pool from which the Met took their recruits so experienced officers may have been at a premium. dave

Dave, thanks that would make sense.... I know he was a PC during 1881/1891 census, and it is very possible he was promoted to APS at the end of 1891. By 1901 he was retired. There are quite a few that were put on the 28 day rejoin so your theory appears quite likely. Thanks very much for your suggestions, it makes it more possible that this may be him now. How did you know that the un-named goodridge was connected to this one? Or was it a hunch? ;-)) Thanks Tracey

:-) educated guess, connecting A/PS and the temporary w/no and his retirement date. dave

Further thought .... The Coronation of King Edward VII was scheduled to take place during June 1902, but was postponed (illness) until August. Maybe your man was called back to assist in holding back the throngs of cheering subjects?! .... stilll, s'pose it meant an extra few pence in his pocket! Regs Jane
