I have been checking the IGI for the marriage of a Michael Ord and a Mary Moody. I know that they were married on 10/11/1760 at Chester le Street where Michael was from (Parish Records) but there is also an entry on 9/11/1760 at Houghton le Spring, possibly where Mary was from. Is this possible?? Russell

Russell Is the second entry a submission by a member? This is usualy how differences occur. Scroll down from the entry and it will tell you what the source was. Regards Andrea

Hello Andrea, They are both transcriptions from the Parish Registers. I just wondered if when 2 people came from different Parishes, whether the marriage was recorded in both. Russell

Oh right, very strange. I've not heard of that before but maybe someone else could shed some light onto it. Andrea

Hi Russell am fine thanks no haven't really got any ideas.. is it possible to see the orginal registers and not rely on IGI? Are the records at SOG??? might be worth a trip there to see them if they are. Apart from that sorry no idea xxx

Perhaps one 'marriage' is actually the banns record. nell

The marriage took place a long time ago so not sure if it was the same then but my 86 year old uncle was telling me the other day that he married my aunt twice because she was a catholic and he was not so they married first in one church and then again in the other church. I think we today would call the second service a blessing not a marriage. Just a thought. Irene

Helloooo Russell!! It is possible. if the bride and groom came from different parishes, they sometimes married in both parishes. Very handy if the families didn't get on!!!! Also it may have been difficult for members of the family to travel if the parishes were a distance apart - much easier (and cheaper) for 2 people (bride & groom) to travel than the whole extended family. maggie x

Hi Russel I think that when there are two entries for a marriage in different parishes It is because the banns for the wedding had to be published in both parishes and the actual marriage was put in both parish registers One of my Guernsey ancestors wedding shows up in the registers for Castel and Vale and one of my husbands ancestors shows up in Rothwell and Leeds Yorkshire Bren
