Agree with John - though use scotsorigins*com as you can search the LDS IGI by county and district for births and marriages and its free. I tend to use scotsorigins first before going onto scotlandspeople so preserving my credits for a bit longer. Have never managed to last more than a day even though you're allowed longer these days.

Have you tried searching on familysearch, org, using their IGI search option, all you need to try is entering the parents names in the father and mother boxes, then select birth/chrisening event option whatever year range you want can go upto 20 years then specify a year, finally selcet as the Region, the British Isles and country of Scotland Best of luck

I haven't been able to find births for some of mine born c1830 (not registered) but found marriage and deaths gave details of their parentage. So if you can find yours after 1854 you should be able to determine if they are brothers.

Hi Marie If i dont make any sense its because my brain is pickled!! i have david anderson, son of robert anderson and beatrix morgan on the 1871 census, born 1823 in saline, he died in 1872 in saline. however i think james anderson, on the same census entry above david may be his brother/other relation. i think i'll need to use last of my credits eh?... lol leanne x

Hi, I've found one other family who share the same surname in the same (very small) village on all census. my relation was a master builder who employed a few men and boys, one of the employed being a man 3 years younger with the same surname who lived next door i think (no addresses but entry above my lot on census) is it safe to assume they were related? probably not, but im disappointed you cant search for children using parents names. any ideas before i use the last of my credits?! leanne x
