I am really stuck on this one. My Great Great Grandfather William Jackson was in the Marines. When I went to Kew I found his discharge papers. i had hoped to look at the attestations but the register was in use all day. Anyway according to this he was born in Spalding, Lincolnshire. It says he enlisted 6th March 1853 age 18. He even states his parents names - William & Jane I have his marriage certificate - 28 August 1871 at Portsea. His wife came from Worksop so I assume either they met when he was on leave or she was working down there - maybe in service. But I can't find his baptism or any trace of him on the 1841 census in Spalding. So where do I look. Can anyone help?

Not too sure about that birth. From the 1881 census, his marriage certificate & now the marine papers his age is consistant with a birth of about 1835. 1861 census - well it could be a brother but his parents would be a lot older. Thank you both of your for looking for something. Jane
