This is another website with useful info about what is on certs and what it means. But the only way to find out what is on YOUR cert is to buy it. Illegitimate children may not have a father listed. http://home*.clara*.net/dixons/Certificates/indexbd.*htm remove * to use. nell

Plus the ages may not show of the bride & groom. If over 21 will say 'Of Full Age' think if under will say Minor ,not sure of that as on my rellies cert of 1847 both parties were widowed & well over 21. Shirley

Morning Kaz! Certificates in 1838 have columns asking identical questions to marriage certificates throughout the 1800s. Occasionally some of the columns are not filled in in the very early certificates, but you should find both fathers names and occupations, provided the couple were both legitimate. Good luck!

Hi All, I have never ordered a marriage certificate from as early as 1838 yet and now i need to. Does anyone know what would be contained on the certificate, eg would the fathers of the couple be noted down. Any help would be very appreciated. thanks kaz
