Thanks for that, I didnt think divorce was likely. Bigamy it is then. Still wander why she must have told her daughter AND used he 1st husbands married name on her 2nd marriage cert. LOL

Highly unlikely they would be divorced - it was prohibitively expensive, the woman had to prove adultery and cruelty or another crime, and it was socially shocking. nell

I think Annie probably calls herself Ince because her mother either told her she was married to him, or because her mother had both names. It's very confusing ;) Was she Mary Ann on her birth cert?

Roshannah Turner married Robert ince (Hince on bmd) in 1852. In 1862 she gives birth to Annie Bingham naming Joseph Bingham as the father on the birth cert. She marries Joseph Bingham in 1868 calling herself a spinster but using her first husbands name. Robert Ince dies in 1873. in 1885 Annie mariries William Davis calling herself Mary Ann Ince Bingham!! Would Roshannah be divorced (very poor people) and even if so why would Annie call herself 'Ince Bingham', she names Joseph Bingham on the marriage cert as her father.
