On the 1861 census Mary Ann and her son Ezra were visiting a house belonging to Joseph, Emma and 4 children. Her status says married. Emma died in 1864... Joseph married Mary Ann in 1865. On the marriage certificate it states Mary as a spinster. On her sons birth cert its states Marys maiden name and her married name as the same. Anyone got any suggestions? Regards, Michaela

she wasn't married to Ezra's father? Was she employed by joseph on that census? Housekeeper? or just visitor

Is there a father named on the birth cert?

She was listed on census as visitor. On Ezras birth cert the father is named as Joseph Wheeler. I just find it strange that her maiden name and married name are the same. Joseph seems to be a common factor. When his mother married Joseph, Ezra and his younger sister Katherine (b. 1864) took on the married name. I am wondering was it their name anyway and their mother had an affair with a married man... then married him when his wife died. Who knows!! Michaela

I know of a recent entry on the GRO where the mothers married name is entered as her maiden name, so errors are made.
