On the 1861 census Mary Ann and her son Ezra were visiting a house belonging to Joseph, Emma and 4 children. Her status says married. Emma died in 1864... Joseph married Mary Ann in 1865. On the marriage certificate it states Mary as a spinster. On her sons birth cert its states Marys maiden name and her married name as the same. Anyone got any suggestions? Regards, Michaela |

she wasn't married to Ezra's father? Was she employed by joseph on that census? Housekeeper? or just visitor |

She was listed on census as visitor. On Ezras birth cert the father is named as Joseph Wheeler. I just find it strange that her maiden name and married name are the same. Joseph seems to be a common factor. When his mother married Joseph, Ezra and his younger sister Katherine (b. 1864) took on the married name. I am wondering was it their name anyway and their mother had an affair with a married man... then married him when his wife died. Who knows!! Michaela |

I know of a recent entry on the GRO where the mothers married name is entered as her maiden name, so errors are made. |
