At the moment the thought of working in a records office or archive library sounds right up my street. But I would like to ask - would being in that environment all day kill my own obsession in doing family research? If I get no reply to this I will know that - yes go for it I might get a life back!

Sheila, Although not qualified to answer, I suspect we'd both get fired very quickly if we took such a job ..... you have to be dispassionate about your own research I reckon before you can become an archivist ... not to mention have degrees the length of your arms (yes, both of them!). Watching for replies with interest ..... Regs Jane

Hi there I work for the National Archives of Scotland here in Edinburgh. I work for the Court and Legal Records Branch and deal mainly with criminal records. I can assure you that I love every minute of it, and no, it did not make me sick of the sight of records. Quite the opposite in fact. I'm very passionate about my work and there is not enough hours in the day for me. I never thought of researching my family history until I started with the archives 5 years ago, I have also set up a genealogy website for Scottish researchers which is becoming very popular. Linda

I didn't see this ad but then I don't get the local papers, but have spotted another one which began the thought process. Now to show myself up - what's modern history? See - failed at the first hurdle!

Yes Lou, of course! I shall have to remember that should I get through to being interviewed. I am not obsessed. I am not obsessed. I am enthusiastic. . . Wildly enthusiastic . . . madly ??
