Evening Marjorie, Given that my Wildes started as Wilde then changed to Wildes and then Wiles, I don't think I stand a chance of finding her, never mind, one day it might just happen,I believe in miracles!!!!! Brenda

Brenda I have nearly the same problem as you - I don't know the first wife's name. But I decided that as she died between 1855 and 1859, I would search all Mrs Holden deaths in that period and try to do it that way. Forget it! There was obviously a serial killer on the loose, targetting Mrs Holdens between 1855-1859, there are THOUSANDS of them! Hope you have better luck. Marjorie

Afternoon Suzy, Thank you for answering my query. I have Roberts condition of marriage as unknown on Ancestry 1881 census. The Mary Ann you mentioned was his father Thomas's 2nd wife - he had three altogether! I will look up Sarah Elizabeth in Burton on Trent,I have had so many twists and turns researching my 'Wildes'.Thnaks anyway.Brenda

Hi again Don't know if these are possibilities: Wildes, Mary Ann 1885 December Deaths Pancras (1837-1901) London Middlesex Volume: 1b Page: 89 WILDES, Sarah Elizabeth 1883 June Deaths Burton upon Trent Derbyshire Volume: 6b Page: 225 Of course, the only way to know for sure is to send off for the certificates. Could be red herrings!! Suzy

On FreeBMD, there are a couple of possibilities:- Marriages Jun 1878 Wyldes Robert (Dudley 6c 27) Marriages Dec 1878 WILDS Robert (Selby 9c 1012) The only way of finding out for sure is to order a certificate, specifying the groom's father's name. Good luck! Carole

I know it won't help you find his wife, and you may already have this - he is on the 1871 census in Burton on Trent, as an 11 year old errand boy. You might need to broaden your year search, as his age varies from census to census. Mail me if you'd like the image. Carole

When my Great Grandfather Robert Wildes married my Great Grandmother Alice Mary Allen in 1886 in Poplar, it stated he was a widower. How on earth do I trace the first wife. Robert was born in Belgaum,Bombay and lived in Burton on Trent later or even Leicestershire, and on the 1881 census he is living with father Thomas Wildes in Pancras(name spelt at Wiles on census) no marital status given.I have added 16 years onto his birth year and looked for possible marriages around 1873,and again from 1881 to 1886,has any one any ideas what I can do now?Brenda
