Hi Someone has sent me a GEDCOM file & I can't open it. When I 1st tried to open it I thought Adobe could open it. Have since found out it can't so have downloaded a PAF file. Now though every time I click it open it it opens or not as an Adobe!!! Can anyone please tell me how to get round this problem? Thanks Penny

Hi RIGHT-click on the file and select 'open with' (left click) then select the program you want to use to open it. If you have downloaded PAF 5 then open that and import the new file you want to open. (think thats the right way).... Vikki xx

You need to change the file association: Go into ''My computer'' then select ''Tools'' ''Folder options''. Click on the ''file types'' tab, then find GED files in the ''registered file types'' list. Single click on GED files, and in the box underneath the list it will tell you what program it is trying to use to open that type of file (probably will say ''Adobe Acrobat''). Click on the ''change'' button and then find your PAF program (it may be listed or you may need to click on ''browse''). Select the PAF program, then click on ''OK''. Hope that helps! Richard

Penny: Acrobat won't open a .ged file.....you need to have a family tree program on your PC. You can download one of the free ones available on in the internet.....my personal favorite, GENOPRO at: www.genopro(.)com Remember to remove the ( ) from the address. LDS (Latter Day Saints) site also has a free one - PAF. Judy
