Hi,i have been looking for the birth of my great-grandfather John Drinkwater on and off for about 8 months-1 year with no joy! I have found him on the 1901 census and have his marriage cert from 1900,and he appears on my nans birth cert etc,but cant find his birth on 1837 or elsewhere.I decided in the last couple of days to have another go and see if i had missed him,but no luck again.Amongst all the scraps and notes i have collected i found this jotted down- John Drinkwater,1879,Yeading(civil parish)Hayes(county)Middx,RG11/1335,(reg district) Uxbridge(sub district)Hayes,7/folio(35)page 22 ??? Im baffled,1,i cant remember ever writing this down and 2,i dont know what it means or what i can do with it,i have only ever ordered a cert from 1837online! Can anyone shed any light on this as to whether it might lead me to finding my great-grandfathers birth cert, thanks,William.

Hi William Sorry I can't help with finding his birth but just to let you know, that information you have there is the details you need to locate a particular entry on a census. I don't know which one though. Sam

Thanks everyone,on his wedding cert(march 4th 1900) it gives his age as 19,and his father as George Drinkwater, and on the 1901 census it gives his age as 20(last birthday).Any ideas as to why his birth doesnt appear on 1837,or more importantly, what can i do with the information to try and get a birth cerificate for my great-grandfather?

Thanks ,but im almost sure that is my John from the large list from hayes( There was an older brother William Walter but he must have left home by then as he was born in 1850)as a lot of the names sound familiar from a contact from a distant relative. Is there any way i can use the info to get a birth certificate even if he doesnt show on 1837online?? Thanks everyone for your help, its been great.

Excellent stuff, thank you so much,i knew that most of the family had moved to the Willesden area as one of Georges sons,William Walter (w.w) Drinkwater had started his waste/sand/ballast/haulage business in about 1885 and most of the family were employed in the business for many, many years, all living in the same roads,or very nearby.I guess im not any closer to finding a birth certificate though am i??Or can those census details be used any other way to pin down Johns birth?
