Sam Thank you VERY VERY much. I have to say the THANET one looks promising as it's Kent and that's near Surrey am I right? I know what you mean about using his middle name . It's possibile so will look at this one in more detail. The woodbridge on - my gut feeling too far although as with Thanet the age kind of matces as he was born in 1837. I make a rule only to buy certs on parental lines ( too costly ) and feel I wouldn't gain much from purchasing his daughters as they married in 1884 & 1897. He was alive in 1901 as the census records him and as i say he has an engraved retirement gift in 1903. Sam thank you once again - truly indebted to your time and kindness. As the thanet one looks promising I think I'll jump in and purchase this and hope ts what I need . Much happiness Debi |

Hi Kay there was no son born in wedlock - just 2 daughters. Angela thanks for searching family relatives ( something new to me ) None of his 3 children emigrated. I have tried different variants of the surname but nothing has turned up. I'm wondering if I should search 1837 from 1910 - 1920 to rule out these years too? thank you Kay & Angela for your input. Much happiness Debi |

Hi Deborah - I have had a quick look on the FamilyRelatives site which is indexed up to 1920 and he is not there. Is it possible that he died abroad? Did any of his children emigrate? |

He is dead I know it, so why can I NOT find him ? I have trawelled through the 1837 website and have had 2 very kind GC members look for a burial for him on their NBI discs. Now his name is Henry Thomas RIVERS b 1837 City of London. He was a Chemist . I have traced him from 1861 to 1901. On the 1901 census he is living in Stoke within Surrey. His daughters marry and live around Surrey. He has an illigitamate son born in Mile End Workhouse. He takes possesion of a retirement gift in 1903 and on the marriage cert ( April 1904 ) of his son he is recorded deceased!! I have searched from 1901 - 1910 . What shall I do next? Go further? or give up? |
