I HAVE JUST FOUND MY GRT GRANDMOTHER ON THE 1871 CENSUS WITH A SISTER THE SAME AGE (6 YEARS) I KNOW THAT THEY WILL HAVE THEIR OWN BIRTH CERTS BUT WILL IT SAY ON THE INDIVIDUAL ONES THAT THEY WERE A TWIN? ANYBODY ANY IDEA??

The birth cert won't say twin, but it should have a time of birth on it. So you will be able to see which was born first. nell

It is possible that they were both aged 6 but born almost a year apart, so one would have just had their 6th birthday and the other be almost 7. I found two children in a distant relative's family with the same age on censuses and assumed they were twins until I found their birth registrations in different years! Kate.

It's quite possible for two children to be born in the same year, just as is possible for twins to be born in two different years - ie either side of midnight on 31 Dec. nell

Twins will not necessarily have the same page number - one could be the last registration on one page and the other the first on the next page (a one-in-four chance).
