When I asked about Spanish censuses here in Spain I was told that they were only available for research purposes and could not be searched for individual names. Birth/marriage and death certificates can be applied for IF you have the first name, two surnames, exact date of birth and the place where registration took place. Before 1870 the church holds all the records and after that records were kept by both the state and the church.Old records are held in the diocese, not in village churches. A lot of records were destroyed during the civil war in 1936-9. The LDS site has some records on line and I believe has some information on how to search in Spain.
