Gentlewoman?? Silly Question I guess

Sorry if this seems a really thick question as we all know what a Gentleman is but would a gentlewoman be the same. I've not come across this as an occupation before Thanks

I'd assume its the same thing Gentleman - a well-to-do man of no occupation Rachel

I would assume it means a woman who has enough capital to live a decent life without the need to work.

Hi Thanks for your answers found this description of Gentleman so guessing she was living off his wealth :-) GENTLEMAN a member of the gentry, a descendant from an aristocratic family whose income came from the rental of his land
