Sorry, I meant if it is just on the internet on GR it can be lost if something went wrong with the site. If you download the PAF one which is good, then you can back up from your computer onto a CD .... and all shall be well! :) Joy

I have just downloaded PAF from the familysearch website, it is fantastic, does everything I would ever need it to do including printing books. Just go to their website, click on software and downloads and click on PAF the english version, takes a while to download but it is fantastic and easy to use, also free, which is the best bit. Nicky

For the last couple of months I have been using Family Tree Maker 2005. It's very good and was recommended by a professional researcher as being good for both professionals and amateurs. I don't know how to intall it as my son did that for me, but once on it's very easy to add information, and at the click of a mouse it will print out all sorts of family reports, charts, and books. I'd recommend it to anyone. Kath. x

PAF is free from familysearch.org. We use the UFT - ultimate family tree - that was on a freebie disc with a family history magazine. No longer made, I think The benefit is - if it's only on here, it could be lost!! :) Joy

Can anyone explain the benefits of software eg family tree maker, family tree legends , what can I do with it that I can't do on here? Just trying to decide if I need it or not and which one is the best for me as not real putor literate , so will have to be simple to use and would like to eventually like to put my tree into book form any advice would be much appreciated Regards Lara
