I am sooo frustrated. I can't find my grt grt grandfather's birth and was wondering if anyone could help. I've looked everywhere (yes, London FRO too). I have found his marriage to Mary Ann Webb in 1885 and his death certificate in 1900. Even found him on the 1881 and 1891 census. His name is Charles NORTH born about 1855. On the 1881 census, it says he was born in Taunton, Devon and on the 1891 it says Taunton, Somerset. He lived in Llanharry, Wales. Any help would be much appreciated. Regards Andrea

This is the only Somerset-registered Charles North from March/June quarters of 1850 (from freeBMD images): Charles Allen North, March 1850, Bridgewater X 380

Thanks both for your help. I have his marriage certificate and I also had trouble finding his father on the census reports. His father's name was William and his occupation was labouror. I am registered to ancestry, but there's a hugh gap of people missing from about 1850 to about 1860. Hence why I went to London. I found a list of Charles NORTHS in 1855 and 1856 (didn't get a chance to look at 1854). The districts don't seem to tie up with Somerset. Regards Andrea

Hi Kathleen, In a way it's good to hear that I'm not the only one having this trouble. It's like having a jigsaw puzzle and finding the last piece is missing! Happy searching. Regards, Andrea
