Have just found Willliam Faichan ( should be Faichen) in thew army in Farnborough in 1861. How would I find out more about his army career, If he was killed, or came out alive? Are there any sites I can visit which will help me to find him? Thanks for any help or advice Alice

I cannot find him on any other census, but the name is often mistranscribed... He was born 1842 in Southampton Hampshire -just in case anyone wants to have a shot at finding him. other people seem to have more luck than me! Alice

Alice I've looked on the 71 and 81 and can't see any sign of him (so it wasn't just too much wine last night!). Maybe he was still in the Army and was overseas? If you could find out which regiment he was attached to, I think you can then google that regiment and find out where they were posted and when which might help you trace his movements. BUT....I'm not sure how you would do that. Maybe someone like Peter Walker or Tony would have a better idea of your best next move Lou
