Im exploring a new branch of family but so far can only get back to my Gt grandparents. (was obviously spoilt on other side of tree as i had more info to go on that took me back) My g.dad was born in 1912 so how do i go about tracing his brothers and sisters as i wont be able to access any census records etc for them for some time. Is there other options? Thanks Amanda |

What I would do is go onto the Family Relatives site. Input just the surname and also the mother's maiden name (that's assuming you know it) Then put in the area and search years of 1912-1920 (Births before 1912 didn't include mother's maiden names so it won't work) This should bring up names of other siblings, especially if both parents surnames aren't that common. Hope that makes sense! If you don't have any credits, let me know and I'll have a look. You'll obviously need to give me surnames and area. Helen |

His parents called John Headland DOB unknown Mothers maiden name Locke. havent discovered date of a marriage as yet so her first name is not known. Robert's siblings are supposed to on included : either a Jack/John + Albert + Dolly? + Florence + Ethel. If you are able to help i would be grateful, what was the addy for that site ? Amanda, I'm guessing it's the district of Edmonton. Well using my method, no one came up, not even your great grandfather! I then just searched for his birth (without putting mothers maiden name) and got this: Robert H Headland, District Edmonton, 3a 1301, Q4, 1912 Mother's maiden name - Licke!!! (I assume this is an error!) I then searched for mothers maiden name as Lock (without the 'e') and one came up: Elizabeth Headland, Edmonton, 3a 1153, Q4, 1915 I've also searched using 'Licke' but only your great grandfather comes up. Elizabeth could be yours, I don't know. Maybe the reason the other names you've suggested don't come up is because they were born before 1912. Hope that helps - a bit! |

Thank you to all those of you who have helped so far! You make me feel like a complete amateur.... On another note this new hobby is costing a small fortune what with buying all the certificates and buying credits for different sites... trying to get as much info as i can !! But your help is invaluable, without it im sure it'd cost alot more and i'd probably have a very sore head from hitting the wall so often lol |

Brenda there is every possiblity that that could be my family .... i think i said (couldnt remember now) but Roberts siblings included: jack/john + albert + dolly? + florence + ethel. so based on your findings so far its a good possible :) THXS although i dont know if charlotte was nicknamed dolly for some reason or if this is another sister. Will know if Elizabeth is correct mum once Roberts birth cert arrives. If you have a copy of the census still would it be possible for you to email be a copy? Thankyou for continue to work on this on my behalf. Amanda |
