I am look for Francis George Bentley, born c1887 St Pancras London, have found birth reg (I think its the right one). Have looked on 1891 census and again found a family that might be right ie Francis year of birth correct and living in right area of London On 1901 have found the family but Francis is now Frances, right age 14 but also shown as daughter. Have looked at the image as well and is definitely shown as a daughter and age in female column!!! All other matching members of family tie up, ie ages are correct What do you think - did the enumerator get it wrong or am I looking at the wrong family

I'd say that if all other family members tie up then you are looking at the same family in both census, but whether it is YOUR family or not is another matter. You will probably have to get some certificates to be certain. There seem to have been a lot of Bentley's around. Kath. x

I just had a quick look at the images and they certainly look like the same people. The only thing that stops me being 100% sure is the change of birth places and the missing John and Emma. Having said that, it would be quite a co-incidence to find 5 people of the correct forename, surname and age in another household. If you could find the death of John and Emma between 1891 and 1901 it would explain why they didn't appear on the later census. Di

Thanks for looking Di. I have now checked and found 2 records of death of John and Emma who look as if they might be the right ones, both in 1893 Looks like I'll have to get out the purse again and send for some more certs.

I would think that the enumerator assumed Francis= Frances female
