Oooo Pat! You are a nice person! With this information you have also thrown some light on a story I've been told about William BALDRY who was a 'national schoolmaster' there being horrified that the Jewish children hadn't been baptised into the Christian faith. So, he ordered some water from the River Jordan and had them all baptised! It all sounds a bit sort of presumptious - clearly religious tolerance/understanding wasn't the order of the day! Thank you so much for looking this up for me. Kind regards Jane |

Nell, No, inspired - finding light in my darkness! Too muddled to think straight at this end ... must get away from the ancestors for a bit!! Thank you once again. Regs Jane |

Having googled till I've dropped, I wonder if anyone can point me to a website (or other research location!) about schools in London during the above era. I'm looking for info about St Mark's School, Royal Mint Street, Whitechapel, London. It was a 'national school' and at that time, I believe, had a large Jewish intake. All clues welcome - and appreciated! Thanks & regs Jane |
