Hi Dawn Most things sold under copyright, which specifically forbids such a process. I think you'd be on pretty dodgy ground, even if you are only doing it for personal use. It's no consolation, but many organisations are converting such data into machine readable form: either on cd or on pay per view sites, but the process can be fairly complex.

You will need a *very* good scanner to be successful, the writing/image is usually so very small. I tried it without success.

Dawn,, Because a scanner has no magification built in,and also has inadiquate lighting, you will find it near impossible to read 'fiche'this way.. Kay,,,>ps Take them down to your local libarary, using their fiche readers allowes you to print off ,from them.

Hi Brenda, Geoff, Ros & Kay.... Many THANKS to each one of you for kindly letting me know about your own experience or giving me advice. The reason why I wished to know if this was possible, is that I do not live in the UK and before I take the plunge on buying a microfiche reader...I wanted to make sure that it is not possible to view the info by using the scanner. As I live too far to pop into a Family History Library, etc...I thourght it would be worth my while on obtaining some microfiche films. Thank You all again... Kind Regards, Dawn.
