I wonder if anyone could advise. I am having problems with a death certificate I sent for from the GRO. I sent them their payment with an exact death reference of year, quarter and place. They returned my money saying they had no trace of that person on that date yet it was in thier indexes. Why would this be? Does anyone know or could advise why-I would be most grateful Sineadxxx |

Are you absolutely certain that you didn't make a spelling mistake or a mistake on the year when you filled in the form online? If you happened to type a wrong number, they wouldn't be able to find it. Might be worth checking with them exactly what you ordered. Kath. x |

When you apply for a certificate from GRO in addition to the name Year quarter and Registration District you should also add the Volume and page numbers. You say that you are aware that the GRO have this event so why not include the references that you can get from 1837online or FreeBMD (depending on the year). Show the details exactly as you see them - better not to elaborate - so, if the entry reads Margaret P Wright do NOT ask for Margaret Patricia Wright. |
