Page and Volume numbers the same as the free bmd site numbers. I want tyo send off for a marriage certificate. If not, how can I do this as the GRO site says I have to know them before a certain period. The year is 1855. Maria :) I made a mistake in my question before, i said the gro as the gro instead of the gro the same as the free bmd DOH! sowwy guys |

Volume and page numbers are shown on the major BMD sites - FreeBMD 1837 online etc., and those references should be used when applying for a certificate from the GRO. If you are applying to the district registrar where the event took place then the GRO references are not necessary as the local will probably have their own index system. |

Hi Jess, yes I have the info. The names are Thomas Noble but he is down as Tom and his wife is Hannah, I'm almost certain her maiden name is Penn. The marriage date I have found is the September qtr 1854, Wellington , Shropshire. I've been looking for this marriage date for months so I can't be 100% sure it's them, the only way I can find out is by getting hte cetificate. Maria |

Maria Freebmd is a transcription of the GRO index, so the vol and page numbers will be the same. If you aren't sure you've found the right marriage, you could pay to look on 1837online which is complete, or you could order the cert but ask the GRO to check something for you - if you know the bride/groom's father's names for example. nell |

FreeBMD recommend that you should always check the volume and page numbers they supply against the GRO indexes (e.g. on 1837 online, microfiche or whatever) to be sure there is no mistranscription, before ordering the cert. Better safe than sorry, don't you think? Especially for the handwritten ones, which I think the year in question would probably be. Kate. |
